Most founders I work with are not stuck because they are not doing enough.

They are corporate escapees. Or, planning their exit. Or already in the messy middle of building a business they hope will replace their job and fuel the life they actually want.

They are thinking seriously about turning an idea into something real. And yet, there is a quiet question sitting underneath all that effort:

Am I actually building the right thing?

I speak with literally hundreds of new/aspiring founders every single year.

  • I see this with ambitious professionals who have not officially left corporate yet and are still carrying an idea around in their head.

  • And, I see it just as often with founders who are already building, maybe even with something live, but things feel heavier than they should.

Different stages. Same underlying challenge.

Here is the hard, but freeing truth:

Mental iteration does not create clarity. And, neither does building off of vibes.

Clarity only shows up when you are explicit about one thing: whom you solve what problem for.

In working with more than 110 founders, I have watched this play out again and again:

  1. One founder came to me years after spinning about her idea.
As we worked through it, we discovered a variety of potential customer segments she could go after. And, within weeks of refinement, she already had her first customers. This is after she had been stuck thinking about her idea for years.

  2. Another founder came to me after building a product on nights and weekends alongside her job.
She had invested months of time and energy, only to discover there was no real willingness to pay. Once we stepped back and clarified whom she wanted to serve and what problem they actually cared about, she uncovered a much more promising sub-market. She is now building a successful business around that, without needing the original product at all.

  3. A third founder came to me mid-build asking for help with positioning.
As we worked through the fundamentals, it became clear that while the idea could work, the work required to make it work was not something he was excited to do long-term. That realization freed him to build a completely different business.

See the trend there? Different timing. Different experiences. All 3 of them had critical realizations that helped shape the business they are each building today that aligns with the dream life they want.

If you want a business that is sustainable, one that makes meaningful money and actually supports your dream life, this question is where it all begins:

Whom do you solve what problem for?

I promise you there is no business in this world that didn’t need to have this crystal clear in order to be successful.

That’s why, I built a free tool called Idea Sanity-Checker to help founders think through this fundamental question.

It is useful whether:

  • you are still sitting with a half-formed idea while in corporate

  • you are already building on the side or full-time

  • or you are making progress but not seeing it compound

Specifically, it helps you:

  • articulate whom you solve what problem for

  • see whether it is clear enough or needs refining

  • identify a clear priority for right now

What makes it especially useful is that it is not the usual agreeable, open-ended, and unhinged Chat GPT. I have trained it on my proprietary Happy Paying Customers™ System that has been used by more than 110 founders. That’s why you will get a clear assessment snapshot of where your idea stands right now and what your top priority should be if you want to turn it into a business powered by Happy Paying Customers.

If you want to sanity-check your business idea, it is here:

Remember, confirming, adjusting, or even walking away sooner are all good outcomes. Give your business a real shot.

Rooting for you!

P.S. Are you, or an aspiring founder you know, serious about going from corporate to customers this year? I am opening up limited spots to work with me personally to go from idea to 1st Happy Paying Customers in 12 weeks, without needing to quit your job (unless you want to!). It'll be hands-on and execution focused. Of course, first order of business will be to clarify your who + problem per the above. Reply to this email to get on the waitlist.
